Title: Controlled English for Knowledge Representation Abstract: Most knowledge representation approaches have suffered from poor user interfaces. I will present controlled English as an approach to design more intuitive but still reliable user interfaces for knowledge representation systems. As an example, I will demonstrate the AceWiki system. AceWiki is a semantic wiki where the articles are written in Attempto Controlled English (ACE), a controlled subset of natural English with a direct connection to formal logic. This allows for automatic consistency checks and question answering on the knowledge that is stored in the wiki. Additionally, I will present experimental results that show that controlled English is not only easier to understand than comparable languages but also need less time to be learned and are preferred by users.
