Amanda Galea studied at the University of Malta, where she graduated in Mechanical Engineering with Honours in 2008. She was then appointed by the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at the University of Malta to work as Research Project Engineer on a National R&I project entitled Idelap. She has published a number of research papers related to the project, acquired several research grants by the University of Malta and is also an inventor in three patents.
Currently she is working as Research Project Engineer on an ERDF Project entitled Research Services for Innovation in Manufacturing with the same department. During her research work, she attended several research visits overseas namely in Croatia, UK, Italy, US and Denmark. In parallel with her project work, she also read for an M. Sc. Degree related to 'Intelligent Life-Oriented Design Support for Micro-Scale Artefacts'. She graduated in 2011 in M. Sc. in Engineering with a Pass with Distinction Classification. Ms Galea also took part in the FEPIC (Female Engineers Pushing Innovation in Companies) Project, during which she collaborated with foreign postgraduate engineers to assist in the development of an e-learning tool aimed at fostering innovation and leadership in scientific and engineering fields.
Apart from project work, Ms Galea also lectured several engineering modules at the University of Malta, namely Computer-Aided Geometric Modelling and Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Engineering.
Ms Galea is a member of the Institute of Engineering Designers (IED) Malta Committee, the Malta Chamber of Engineers (COE) and the Design Society.
Her research interests include computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), computer support for collaborative design, innovation in design and applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in design.
