NATIONAL HOLIDAYS AND OTHER PUBLIC 
HOLIDAYS ACT
To make provision regarding the National Holidays of Malta and other
public holidays.

 Short title.

1. This Act may be cited as the National Holidays and other
Public Holidays Act.
National Holidays.

2. The following shall be National Holidays:
the twenty first day of September known as Jum 1-Indipendenza,
the thirteenth day of December known as Jum ir-Repubblika, 
the thirty first day of March known as Jum il- _Helsien,
  the eighth of September known as Jum il-Vittorja, 
  the seventh day of June known as the Sette Giugno.
National Holidays 
to be public 
holidays.

3. The National Holidays shall be public holidays and on
those occasions there shall be flown on public buildings the
National Flag of Malta.
Celebration on 
National Holidays.

4. The Prime Minister shall give such directions as he may
deem appropriate for the due celebration of the National Holidays.
Public holidays.

 5. (1) Sundays and the days listed in the Schedule to this Act
shall be public holidays.
(2) Notwithstanding the foregoing provisions of this section,
the Prime Minister may by notice in the Gazette - 
( a ) order any day to be observed as a public holiday in
addition to other public holidays;
( b ) order that any day listed in the Schedule to this Act
shall not be observed as a public holiday.
(3) The Prime Minister may also, by order in the Gazette,
amend the Schedule to this Act.
(4) On public holidays, all Government offices shall be closed:
Provided that the Prime Minister may direct that one or more
Government offices shall be kept open on any public holiday
specified in the direction.

6. Notwithstanding anything contained in any other law, or in
any contract, or in any other instrument whatsoever, where under
the conditions of service applicable to a person such person is, or

but for the provisions of this Act would have been, entitled to a
holiday on any day which ceases to be a public holiday by virtue of
this Act, such person shall cease to be entitled to a holiday on any
such day as aforesaid, but shall become entitled to a holiday on any
day which is a public holiday after the commencement of this Act
and was not a public holiday before that date; and any such other
law, contract or instrument as aforesaid shall have effect
accordingly.
