DIPLOMA IN PASTORAL THEOLOGY - 
DIPL. PAST. TH. - REGULATIONS

The title of these regulations is the Diploma in Pastoral
Theology - Dipl. Past. Th. - Regulations and these regulations shall
apply to courses started in or after 1990.
Admission.
candidate:
( a ) must comply with the regulations for Admission of
Students to this Faculty;
( b )) must have completed a course of studies in Theology at
a recognized institution considered to be sufficient by
the Faculty Board.
1.2 To be eligible for the award of the Diploma in Pastoral
Theology (Dipl. Past. Th.) a candidate must satisfy all the
requirements laid down in these regulations.
Course of studies.

2.1 The Course of Studies leading to the Diploma in Pastoral
Theology (Dipl. Past. Th.) shall extend over a period of at least two
and not more than four semesters. On the recommendation of the
Faculty Board, Senate may allow a candidate to complete the
course in a longer period under such conditions as the Faculty
Board may deem necessary.
2.2 The course of studies shall consist of a number of study-
units to each of which a specified number of credits shall be
assigned. Each candidate shall be required to take at least 20
credits.
2.3 A catalogue of study-units with the credits assigned to each
shall be issued at the beginning of each course. This catalogue shall
specify which study-units are obligatory and which are optional.
2.4 The study-units shall normally be taken from courses given
by the Faculty of Theology; but a candidate may be allowed to take
one or more study units in another Faculty.

2.5 The Faculty Board may exempt a candidate from a
maximum of one-fifth of the number of credits required for the
conferment of the Diploma in Pastoral Theology, provided that the
candidate presents sufficient academic testimonials attesting that
the credits from which exemption is required have been
substantially covered.
Examinations.
In case of failure the candidate is entitled to one repeat session,
which shall be held within six months.
3.2 A written examination, consisting of one paper of three

hours, shall be held at the end of the course of studies on an
approved list of topics, which shall be published before the end of
the first semester. In case of failure, the examination may be
repeated only once at the end of the following semester.
3.3 A candidate may also be required to take a  viva voce
examination integrating any written examination.
3.4 A candidate who is absent from an examination for a
reason beyond his control may be allowed to take it at a later
session.
3.5 Each candidate will be required to write an essay of not
less than 5,000 words on an approved subject under the guidance of
a supervisor. The essay must be submitted for approval by not later
than the end of the fourth semester.
Board of Studies. 4.1 There shall be a Board of Studies appointed by the Faculty
Board for each Diploma Course, consisting of at least three regular
members of staff.
4.2 The Board of Studies shall organize and supervise the
running of the course and shall act as Examining Board for the
written examination at the end of the course.
