BYE-LAWS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF 
PHILOSOPHY - M.PHIL. - IN THE INSTITUTE OF 
AGRICULTURE

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these bye-laws is Bye-Laws for the Degree
of Master of Philosophy - M.Phil. - in the Institute of Agriculture.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless. the context otherwise requires:
"the Board" means the Board of the Institute of Agriculture;
"the course" means the course leading to the Degree of Master of
Philosophy- M.Phil.;
"the Degree" means the Degree of Master of Philosophy -
M.Phil.
Applicability.
1996 or later.
Eligibility for 
admission.
3. Applications shall be open to graduates who hold in terms
of regulation 2 of the relevant Regulations:
( a ) a degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary
Science, or Biology, or
( b ) a degree where Agriculture or Biology was a major
area of study, or
( c ) a degree in Economics, Chemistry, Engineering or
Geography and wish to follow the course by carrying
out research work in Agricultural Economics,
Agricultural Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering or
Agricultural Geography respectively. The Board shall
consider applications from persons holding a degree in
other areas of study so long as such areas have an
agricultural aspect as in the case of Economics,
Chemistry, Engineering and Geography.
Registration.
Honours degree, normally not lower than a Second Class Upper
Division from the University of Malta or any other approved
University. The Board may in special cases allow candidates who
do not satisfy this requirement to register but such candidates shall
be subject to additional requirements including the taking of one or
more qualifying examinations.
Dissertation.
of the proposed dissertation and a brief account of it.
(2) The length of the dissertation shall not normally exceed
50,000 words unless otherwise specified by the Board.

(3) A student shall be required to submit three copies of the
dissertation for examination which shall be bound in black cloth
with stiff boards and good quality end papers, having gold lettering
on the front showing ( a ) name of candidate, ( b ) title of dissertation,
( c ) "M.Phil", ( d ) year of submission; and ( a ), ( c ) and ( d ) only on
the spine.
(4) The text shall be typed on A4 sheets, one side only, in
double line spacing and with a margin of 40mm to the left and at
least 20mm top, bottom margin of 40mm to the left and at least
20mm top, bottom and right.
