BACHELOR OF SCIENCE - B.SC. - (BUSINESS AND 
COMPUTING) DEGREE COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Bachelor of Science
- B.Sc. - (Business and Computing) Degree Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires:
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Economics,
Management and Accountancy;
"the course" means the course of studies leading to the Degree of
Bachelor of Science - B.Sc. - (Business and Computing);
"the Degree" means the Degree of Bachelor of Science - B.Sc. -
(Business and Computing).
Applicability.
1997 or later.
Admission.
the Degree -
( a ) register as a matriculated student in terms of the
Admission Regulations of the University;
( b ) satisfy the special course requirements in accordance
with regulation 5;
( c ) complete the course, qualify in the examinations, and
satisfy any other requirements prescribed in these
regulations; and
( d ) satisfy any other requirement prescribed in any other
relevant Statutes and Regulations of the University.
Duration of course.
three years.
(2) A student may not take the final examinations earlier than
three academic years or later than four years from first admission to
the course, except with the permission of the Senate.
Special 
requirements for 
the course.
5. A student may apply for admission to the course if he has
these requirements:
( a ) the requirement for admission to the University;
( b ) for entry in October 1997 or later:
Advanced level passes with Merit or better in one of:
Accounting
Computing or Information Technology
Mathematics

Economics
Passes at Intermediate level in the following subjects
if the applicant has not already offered these subjects
at Advanced level:
(i) Accounting and
(ii) either Information Technology or Computing.
Course of studies. 6. (1) The course consists of a number of study-units to each
of which a specified number of credits is assigned.
(2) A catalogue of study-units, with the credits assigned to
each, shall be published before the start of each academic year.
(3) The catalogue shall specify the core study-units and pre-
requisites for Part One and Part Two of the course.
(4) A student must obtain not less than 64 credits in order to
complete the course.
(5) Credits are awarded to students who successfully complete
the study units. (One credit is normally gained for a successfully
completed study unit of about 14 teaching hours.)
(i) Credits shall be graded A to D, with A being the
highest and D the lowest pass grade indicating the
standard attained by the candidate in the work carried
out throughout the study unit and in the test held at the
end of it. The test may consist of a written part and/or
an oral part and/or an assignment prepared during the
study unit.
(ii) A student who fails to obtain the credits assigned to a
study unit shall be given a Grade F and may be
allowed to repeat the study unit when offered.
(6) The course consists of a minimum number of study units
with the following number of credits:
Part One - 25 credits
Part Two - 39 credits.
(7) A student shall register for a number of study units in each
year of Part Two of the course for which not less than 14 and not
more than 28 credits are assigned.
(8) The number of required study units, the choice of study
units and the order in which they are to be taken by the student,
shall have the approval of the Board. (Some study units are in a
sequence, and admission to them may require the previous
successful completion of other specified study units and/or other
qualifications indicated in the catalogue of study units.)
(9) The Board may exempt a student from the requirements of
obtaining a credit certificate for a particular study unit if he has
obtained from the University or an institution recognized by the
Senate for the purpose, a qualification the study for which is, in the
opinion of the Board equivalent in content and standard to that
required for the credit certificate.
Examinations. 7. (1) There shall be a final examination held at the end of

Part Two of the course.
(2) A student is deemed to have passed the examination if he
has obtained one of the following grades: A, B, C or D in each of
the papers.
(3) There shall be two sessions of examinations in each year:
one session is normally held in May/June and a Supplementary
Session is normally held in September/October.
Final examination.
stipulated minimum of 64 credits, a student shall be required to sit
for the final examination.
(2) There shall be eight papers set in the final examination. A
viva voce  examination may also be held.
Evaluation of 
students.
9. (1) The overall evaluation of a candidate for the Degree
shall take into account his performance at the final examination, as
well as the credit certificates and grades obtained during the
course.
(2) The names of students who qualify for the award of the
Degree shall be published in alphabetical order in a list divided into
the categories I, IIA, IIB and III.
Supplementary 
examinations and 
termination of 
courses.
10. (1) A student who fails the final examination may be
allowed to sit for a supplementary examination in the following
session in the papers failed.
(2) A student may only be allowed to repeat the final
examination once.
