POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN 
FACILITATING INCLUSIVE EDUCATION COURSE 
REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Postgraduate
Certificate in Facilitating Inclusive Education Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Institute for Child
Development;
"the Certificate" means the Postgraduate Certificate in
Facilitating Inclusive Education; and
"the course" means the course leading to the Postgraduate
Certificate in Facilitating Inclusive Education.
Applicability.
October 1995 or later.
Eligibility.
must have:
( a ) been registered as regular students in terms of the
Admission Regulations of the University;
( b ) completed the course of studies, passed the final
examination and satisfied any other requirements as
prescribed in these regulations; and
( c ) satisfied all other requirements laid down in any other
relevant statutes, regulations and bye-laws of the
University.
Registration.
to the provisions of these regulations, if they are in possession of a
teaching qualification recognized by the University.
(2) Candidates must also satisfy the Institute for Child
Development that they have the necessary aptitude towards
inclusive philosophy. Candidates may be required to attend an
interview/assessment for this purpose.
Course 
programme.
5. (1) The course of studies leading to the Certificate extends
over a period of one academic year of part-time study.
(2) ( a ) The course shall consist of study-units to which not
less than 14 credits shall be assigned including:
(i) taught study-units to which 9 credits shall be
assigned;
(ii) a practical study-unit to which 2 credits shall be
assigned; and

(iii) a long essay to which 3 credits shall be assigned
and the subject of which must be approved by
the Board.
( b ) Each practical study-unit shall normally involve
approximately 50 hours.
(3) The following shall be the study-units offered as part of the
course:
Appreciating Diversity (1 credit)
Personalised Teaching (2 credits)
Communication Skills (1 credit)
From Multidisciplinary to Transdisciplinary Team Work (2
credits)
Characteristics of Syndromes and Interventions (1 credit)
Health Education (1 credit)
Curriculum Considerations (1 credit)
Practical Assignment (2 credits)
Long Essay (3 credits).
(4) A catalogue of study-units, with the credits assigned to
each and indicating which study-units are compulsory, shall be
published at the commencement of each course.
(5) In order to be eligible for the award of the Certificate,
students must obtain at least 13 credits, including the credits for the
compulsory study-units, over the period of one academic year and
pass the final examination.
Assessment. 6. (1) Credits shall be assigned according to the following
grades in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D and F, where F
signifies a failure.
(2) Students who fail a study-unit shall be allowed to re-sit the
assessment for that study-unit once only. The maximum grade that
may be awarded following a re-sit shall be grade D.
Final examination. 7. (1) Students who obtain the minimum number of credits
indicated in regulation 5(5) shall be required to sit for the final
examination.
(2) The final examination shall be held at the end of the course
(after one academic year), normally in dune, and shall consist of
one synoptic paper and an oral examination.
(3) Students who fail the final examination shall be allowed a
supplementary session once within a period of twelve months from
the end of the course. In such cases, -the highest grade that may be
awarded shall be the minimum pass grade.
Final results. 8. (1) The final results shall take into account the
performance of the students in all the components of the course as
follows:
Coursework 60%
Final Examination 40%.

(2) The names of the students who are eligible for the award of
the Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order in
the following categories:
Pass with Distinction
Pass.
