SELECTION OF APPLICANTS FOR ADMISSION TO 
THE BACHELOR OF DENTAL SURGERY - B.CH.D. 
- DEGREE COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Selection of
Applicants for Admission to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery -
B.Ch.D. - Degree Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the course" means the course leading to the degree of Bachelor
of Dental Surgery - B.Ch.D.
Applicability.

October 2003 or later.
Selection of 
applicants.
3. The number of students that may be admitted to the course
shall be limited as provided in terms of the provisions of these
regulations.
Number of 
students.
4. The number of students shall be limited to six Maltese
students and an additional two places reserved for foreign students.
Requirements for 
registration.
5. In order to be admitted into the course applicants must
satisfy the requirements for registration as regular students of the
University as specified in the Admission Regulations and any other
requirements for admission to the course as specified in all the
regulations for the course.
Eligible applicants.
best six applicants shall be selected by the University Admissions
Board, after seeking the advice of the Admissions Committee of the
Faculty of Dental Surgery, in accordance with the criteria for
selection as specified in regulation 7(6).
Criteria for 
selection.
7. (1) Grades obtained in the following subjects at the level
indicated shall be considered first:
( a ) Chemistry at Advanced Level and Biology at
Advanced Level, hereafter referred to as the primary
subjects; and
( b ) Physics, at either Advanced or Intermediate Level,
hereafter referred to as the secondary subject.
(2) A grade obtained in the secondary subject taken at
Advanced Level, shall, for the purpose of selection, be given the
same value as the same grade obtained in the secondary subject at
Intermediate Level.
(3) Applicants in possession of the general entry requirements,
may offer passes in the primary subjects and/or in the secondary
subject, either as part of the general entry requirements or in

10th Category: those with 1 "A" and 1 "C" in the primary
subjects and a "C" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
11th Category: those with 1 "B" and 1 "C" in the primary
subjects and a "A" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
12th Category: those with 1 "B" and 1 "C" in the primary
subjects and a "B" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
13th Category: those with 1 "B" and 1 "C" in the primary
subjects and a "C" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
14th Category: those with 2 "C"s in the primary subjects and a
"A" in the secondary subject obtained in one
session
15th Category: those with 2 "C"s in the primary subjects and a
"B" in the secondary subject obtained in one
session
16th Category: those with 2 "C"s in the primary subjects and a
"C" in the secondary subject obtained in one
session.
(7) If the number of Maltese applicants falling in thc last
category of applicants eligible to be admitted in terms of the
provisions of subregulation (6) is such that the total number of
applicants to he admitted exceeds six, then the applicants in that
category shall be interviewed by an  ad hoc  Admissions Board
appointed hy Senate in order to fill the remaining place/s.
(8) The two places reserved for foreign students shall be filled
on the recommendation of the Admissions Committee of the
Faculty of Dental Surgery after consideration of the overall
qualifications of the foreign applicants. Applicants may be required
to attend for an interview.
