CERTIFICATE IN TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION 
COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Certificate in
Technology Education Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Education;
"the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed for
the course;
"the Certificate" means the Certificate in Technology Education;
and
"the course" means the course of studies leading to the
Certificate in Technology Education.
Applicability.
2001 or later.
Eligibility for the 
Certificate.
3. To be eligible for the award of the Certificate, students
must:
( a ) be registered as regular students in the course in terms
of the Admission Regulations of the University;
( b ) complete the course of studies and obtain all the
credits indicated in regulation 6(1); and 
( c ) satisfy all other requirements laid down in any other
relevant statutes, regulations and bye-laws of the
University.
Admission to the 
course.
4. Applicants may be registered in the course if they:
( a ) satisfy the requirements for admission as regular
students as laid down in the Admission Regulations of
the University;
( b ) are serving or have served as a teacher/instructor
member of staff in a school;
( c ) have a minimum of one year’s teaching experience;
( d ) satisfy the Board of Studies that they have the
necessary background and aptitude to follow the
course with profit; and
( e ) are nominated by the Education Division and are
accepted by the University to register for the course in
terms of these regulations.
Duration of the 
course.
5. The course shall extend over one year of part-time study.
In special circumstances, the Board may allow students to complete
the course in a maximum of two years.

Course of studies. 6. (1) The course shall consist of the following compulsory
study-units, to which a total of 15 credits shall be assigned:
Curriculum Project 4 credits
Production Methods 4 credits
Food Technology 3 credits
Design and Make in Teams 4 credits.
(2) A catalogue of study-units, indicating the code, title,
description, credits assigned to each study-unit and the method of
assessment (normally by coursework, which may include written
assignments, design and make assignments, and/or an end of study-
unit examination), shall be published by the Board before the
commencement of the course, following approval by Senate.
Assessment. 7. (1) During the course, students shall be assessed in the
study-units in accordance with criteria established by the Board of
Studies.
(2) Credits shall be assigned according to the following grades
in descending order of merit: A, B, C, and D. Failure shall be
indicated by F.
(3) Students who fail in any component of the assessment of a
study-unit shall be allowed to re-submit their assignment/s, or resit
the examination/s once at the next examination session. If
successful, the maximum grade that may be awarded shall be grade
D. If unsuccessful in the re-assessment, students shall be required
to withdraw from the course.
Attendance. 8. Regular attendance for all study-units of the course is
obligatory. In the case of absence for a reason the Board of Studies
considers valid, it may allow students to proceed with the course
provided that alternative arrangements are made to make up for the
missed lectures.
Final result. 9. (1) The final result shall take into account the students’
performance in the four study-units, which shall be weighted
according to the number of credits assigned to each.
(2) The names of students who qualify for the award of the
Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order
classified as follows:
Passed with Distinction
Passed.
