STATUTE I 15 - EUROPEAN DOCUMENTATION 
AND RESEARCH CENTRE   STATUTE

Centre.
2. There is hereby established the European Documentation
and Research Centre, hereinafter referred to as "the Centre", at the
University of Malta, incorporating the European Documentation
Centre established to serve as a repository of European Community
documents as well as a resource centre for students and the general
public, and furthermore act as a focal point for the promotion of
European Studies, in particular by:
( a ) organising and running specific courses in European
Studies;
( b ) organising interdisciplinary studies;
( c ) undertaking and publishing research;
( d ) collaborating with other University bodies, with the
Academy for Diplomatic Studies, and with
Governmental and Non-Governmental organisations in
projects of mutual interest.
Services of a 
Documentation 
Centre.
3. The Centre will continue to provide the services of a
Documentation Centre which will house Community
Documentation in an area designated as such and clearly distinct
from any other library facilities.
Board.
be composed as follows:
Chairman: The Rector or his deputy;
Vice-Chairman: The Director of the Centre;
a person appointed by Council;
two members appointed by Senate;
three members co-opted by the Board.
The Board may also appoint a panel of foreign advisers.
(2) The functions of the Board shall be the following:
( a ) to determine the policy of the Centre in conformity
with the objectives stated in this statute;
( b ) to oversee the general and financial administration of
the Centre; and
( c ) to encourage collaboration with other bodies, local and
foreign, in order to achieve the aims of the Centre.

(2) The Director, appointed by the Council of the University
following a call for applications, shall hold office for a period of
three years.
(3) The Director shall be responsible for coordinating the
courses run by the Centre and for its day-to-day administration
according to the policy established by the Board.
(4) The Director shall prepare the annual budget of the Centre
and submit it to the Board for approval. The Director shall also
submit a financial statement to Council and an annual Report to
Senate and Council on the activities of the Centre.
(5) Full-time academic and non-academic staff shall be
appointed by the Council on the recommendation of the Board.
(6) The Board may appoint part-time members of staff for a
period not exceeding one calendar year.
Consultancy 
services.
6. The Centre may provide consultancy services to public and
private institutions requiring expertise in European and Community
matters.
Treasurer of the 
Centre.
7. The Finance Officer of the University of Malta shall be the
Treasurer of the Centre.
Amendments. 8. Amendments to this statute may be proposed by the Board
and shall require the approval of Council.
