REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Diploma in Youth
Studies - Dip. Youth St. - and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Youth
and Community Studies - B.A. - Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise require -
"the course" means the course leading to the Diploma and/or the
Degree;
"the Degree’ means the Bachelor of Arts in Youth and
Community Studies;
"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Youth Studies.
Applicability.
1993 or later.
Eligibility.
shall have:
( a ) been registered as regular students;
( b ) completed the course of studies, passed the final
examinations and satisfied any other requirements
prescribed in these regulations;
( c ) satisfied all other requirements prescribed in any other
relevant statutes and regulations of the University.
(2) To be eligible for the award of the Degree, a candidate
shall:
( a ) satisfy the eligibility requirements for the award of the
Diploma;
( b ) register for the Degree course after the end of the
Diploma course; and
( c ) comply with any other requirements prescribed in any
other relevant statutes and regulations of the
University.
Registration.
Studies for a course of studies leading to the Diploma or a
Certificate in Youth Studies according to the provisions of these
regulations if they are eligible for admission to the University as
regular students in terms of the Admission Regulations of the

University.
(2) A candidate may be registered for the Degree if he has
obtained at least a Pass in the Diploma course.
(3) A candidate who registers for the Degree shall forfeit the
award of the Diploma if he opts to proceed with the course leading
to the Degree.
(4) Candidates who fail to complete the course for the Degree
shall be awarded the Diploma, provided that such candidates have
completed successfully all the compulsory units for the first two
calendar years, obtained the minimum of twenty-five credits and
passed the Final Examination required at this stage.
THE DIPLOMA COURSE
Course 
programme.
5. (1) The course of studies leading to the Diploma shall
extend over a period of two calendar years part-time study.
(2) The course of studies for the Diploma shall consist of
study-units, to which not less than thirty credits shall be assigned,
in the following modules:
Module A: Principles of Youth Work
Module B: Skills Training
Module C: Thematic Studies
Module D: Practical
Module E: Research Project.
(3) A catalogue of study-units in each module, with the credits
assigned to each, shall be published before the start of each course.
(4) In order to be eligible for the award of the Diploma,
candidates shall obtain at least twenty-five credits including credits
in the compulsory units over the period of two calendar years and
passed the final examination.
(5) Candidates may terminate the course after one calendar
year in which case a Certificate in Youth Studies shall be awarded,
provided that such candidates have completed successfully all the
compulsory units for the first calendar year and obtained a
minimum of twelve credits.
Assessment. 6. (1) Credits shall be assigned according to the following
grades in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D and F, where F
signifies a failure.
(2) Candidates who fail a study-unit shall be allowed to take a
re-sit in that unit once only. Credits obtained following a re-sit
shall carry the minimum pass grade.
Final examination. 7. (1) Candidates who have obtained the minimum number of
credits as indicated in regulation 5(4) shall be allowed to sit for the
final examination.
(2) The final examination shall be held at the end of the
Course, normally in June/July, and shall consist of two synoptic
papers.

(3) Candidates who fail the final examinations shall be
allowed to take a re-sit once within a period of twelve months from
the end of the course. In such cases, the highest grade awarded
shall be the minimum pass grade.

candidates shall be published in alphabetical order in the following
categories: Pass with Distinction and Pass.

Administration. 13. The academic administration of the course shall be
entrusted to the Board of Studies appointed by Senate on the
recommendation of the Board of the Institute of Youth Studies.
