DIPLOMA IN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE -
DIP. ENV. SC. - COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Diploma in
Environmental Science - Dip. Env. Sc. - Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of Studies established under
regulation 3;
"the course" means the course leading to the Diploma in
Environmental Science;
"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Environmental Science.
Applicability.

2. These regulations shall be applicable to courses starting in
October 2000 or later.
Board of Studies.
Studies to advise it on the admission of candidates, on the academic
programme and on matters relating to the proper running of the
course.
(2) The Board shall be composed of a Chairman, a Course
Coordinator and three members. Other members may be coopted by
the Board if the need arises.
Eligibility for the 
Diploma.

4. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma a candidate
shall have:
( a ) registered for and successfully completed a course of
studies in Environmental Science as provided in these
regulations;
( b ) completed the appropriate study programme, passed in
the Integrated Project, qualified in the final
examinations and satisfied any other requirements
prescribed in these regulations; and
( c ) complied with any other requirements prescribed in
any other relevant statutes and regulations of the
University.
Registration.
the course if he is eligible for admission to the University as a
regular or probationary student in terms of the Admission
Regulations of the University.
Course of studies.

6. (1) The duration of the course shall be of four academic
semesters of part-time study.

(2) The course programme shall consist of study-units,
including an Integrated Project and report thereon, to which a total
of not less than 22 credits shall be assigned. A catalogue of study-
units and of the credits assigned to each unit shall be approved by
Senate and published by the Board of Studies prior to the start of
each course.
(3) Study-units may include lectures, seminars, field and
laboratory practicals, site visits or combinations thereof as
appropriate.
(4) Each study-unit may be assessed by course work, tests, or
written or oral examinations, or a combination of these as
appropriate and as determined by the Board.

7. (1) Credits awarded shall be assigned according to the
following grades in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D and F,
where F indicates Fail.
(2) A candidate who fails to obtain a credit for a study-unit
shall normally be allowed to take one resit only. If a resit is taken
the grade awarded shall be "D" or "Fail".
(3) A candidate who fails in the Integrated Project may be
allowed by the Board to re-submit it within a period of six months.
In this case the maximum grade that may be awarded shall be grade
D.

examinations.

8. Written comprehensive examinations shall be held at the
end of the course. Only candidates who have obtained a minimum
of 20 credits shall be admitted to sit the examinations.
Bye-Laws. 9. Bye-Laws for the purpose of these regulations may be
proposed by the Board for approval by the Senate of the University.
