FACILITATING INCLUSIVE EDUCATION 
DIPLOMA COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Facilitating
Inclusive Education Diploma Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of Studies as constituted by the
Institute of Child Development;
"the course" means the course leading to the Diploma;
"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Facilitating Inclusive
Education.
Applicability.
the academic year 1995/96 or later.
Eligibility for the 
Diploma.
3. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma candidates
must have:
( a ) been registered as regular students;
( b ) completed the course of studies, passed the final
examination and satisfied any other requirements
prescribed in these regulations; and
( c ) satisfied all other requirements laid down in any other
relevant statutes and regulations of the University.
Registration.
to the provisions of these regulations, if they possess either a
Certificate in Facilitating Inclusive Education, a Postgraduate
Certificate in Inclusive Education, or any other equivalent
certificate as determined by the Board.
(2) Candidates must also satisfy the Institute of Child
Development that they have the necessary aptitude. Candidates
may be required to attend an interview/assessment for this purpose.
Course 
programme.
5. (1) The course of studies leading to the Diploma shall
extend over a period of two academic years part-time study. The
first year shall be spent in obtaining the qualification referred to in
regulation 4(1).
(2) The course of studies for the Diploma shall consist of
study-units to which not less than 20 credits shall be assigned,
which include practical units to which 7 credits shall be assigned.
The following is a list of study-units to be offered as part of the
course:

* Art in Education (1 cr.)
* Drama/P.E./Music (2 cr.)
* Inclusive Communities (1 cr.)
* I.T. as an Inclusive Tool (1 cr.)
* Communication Disorders (2 cr.)
* Children with Developmental Delay (Down Syndrome
and others 2 cr. Including Practical Assignment)
Motor Disabilities (2 cr. including Practical
Assignment)
Pervasive Developmental Disorders (2 cr. including
Practical Assignment)
Multiple Disabilities (2 cr. including Practical
Assignment)
Learning Disabilities (2 cr. including Practical
Assignment)
* Practical Assignment in an Inclusive Setting (2 cr.).
(3) A detailed description of the credit course shall be
published before the start of each course.
(4) All those study-units marked with an asterisk in
subregulation (2) shall be compulsory units. Students shall be
asked to select another 2 units from the remaining study-units
offered. The choice is determined by the availability of practicum
places.
(5) In order to be eligible for the award of the Diploma
candidates must obtain at least 14 credits, including credits in the
compulsory units, over the period of one academic year and pass
the final examination.
Assessment. 6. (1) Credits shall be assigned according to the following
grades in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D and F, where F
signifies a failure.
(2) Candidates who fail a credit shall be allowed to re-sit that
credit once only. Credits obtained following a re-sit shall carry the
minimum pass grade.
Final examination. 7. (1) Candidates who have obtained at least the minimum
number of credits as provided in regulation 5(5) shall be required to
sit for the final examination.
(2) The final examination for the Diploma shall be held at the
end of the course (not before one academic year from registration
in the course), normally in June/July, and shall consist of two
synoptic papers and an oral examination.
(3) Candidates who fail any or both of the final examination
papers shall be allowed to take a re-sit in the failed paper/e once
within a period of twelve months from the end of the course. In
such cases the highest grade awarded shall be that of a Grade D.
Final result. 8. (1) The final result of the candidates shall take into
account the performance of the candidates in all the components of
the course. The course work shall be allocated 60% of the final

result while the final exam papers will make up the rest, i.e., 40%
of the final result.
(2) In the final results for the Diploma the names of the
successful candidates shall be published in alphabetical order in the
following categories:
Pass with Distinction
Pass.
