CINEMA PROJECTIONISTS (LICENCE) 
REGULATIONS

Title .
(Licence)   Regulations.
Interpretation. 
requires-
"cinema projectionist" is a person who operates cinema
projection equipment for the running of shows at which members
of the public may attend against payment of an admission fee;
"Director" means the Director responsible for the Department of
Labour;
"Minister" means the Minister responsible for the Police.
Licence to operate 
cinema projection 
equipment.
3. (1) No person shall act as a cinema projectionist unless he
is in possession of a licence to operate issued by the Director in
terms of these Regulations.
(2) A person applying for a license to operate cinema
projection equipment shall be not less than eighteen years of age
and shall be in possession of a certificate of competency issued by
the Employment and Training Corporation in the calling of cinema
projectionist:
Provided that a person who is already in possession of a
licence of cinema projectionist issued by the Director in terms of
the Cinematographs (Licensing of Projectionists) Regulations shall
also be eligible for a licence under these Regulations.
Conditions of 
licence.
4. (1) A licence shall be issued by the Director for a period of
one year, but the licence may be renewed on application to the
Director for further periods of one year at a time:
Provided that the application for renewal shall be submitted
before than the date on which the licence expires:
Provided further that when an application for renewal has
been received by the Director, any licence in effect on the date on
which the application for renewal is received shall be deemed to
remain effective until such time as a decision is taken by the
Director to renew the licence or to refuse the application for
renewal.
(2) The Director may include in the licence any relevant
conditions as he may deem fit for the purpose of ensuring the safe
use of the equipment and the elimination of any risk for the safety
of the employees at the cinema and of any members of the public
who may attend the shows, and the licensee shall comply with such
conditions.

Licence fee. 5. A fee of ten liri shall be paid to the Director together with
an application for a licence or with an application for renewal of
licence. The fee is not refundable if the application for the licence
or for the renewal of the licence is refused.
Refusal of licence. 6.  The Director may refuse a request for a licence, or, if a
licence has been issued, a request for the renewal of a licence, on
the grounds that such person -
( a ) has failed to submit to any trade test in the calling of
cinema projectionist at the Employment and Training
Corporation, if such person is required to submit to
such test by the Director; or 
( b ) has failed to pass such trade test; or
( c ) has failed to comply with any provisions of these
Regulations; or

( d ) has been convicted of an offence under the
Occupational Health and Safety (Promotion) Act, or
any regulations issued thereunder, including any
regulations issued under the Factories Ordinance in
relation to any place of work where shows are run for
the public; or
Cap. 365.
( e ) has been served with an order by an inspector under
the Occupational Health and Safety (Promotion) Act,
to refrain from operating any cinema projection
equipment until such time as such order is revoked.
Cancellation of 
licence.
7. The Director may cancel a licence for any of the reasons
listed under paragraphs ( c ), ( d ) and ( e ) of regulation 6 of these
Regulations. 
Communication of 
decision.
8. The Director shall communicate in writing any decision
taken by him under regulations 6 and 7 of these Regulations, giving
reasons for his decision.
Offences. 9.  Any person who contravenes the provisions of regulations
3 and 4 of these Regulations shall be guilty of an offence and shall,
on conviction, be liable to a fine ( multa ) of not less than fifty liri
and not more than one hundred liri.
