PLANNING - COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.

1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Diploma in
Planning Studies - Dip. Planning - Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Planning Studies- Dip.
Planning;
"the Board" means the Faculty Board of Architecture and Civil
Engineering.
Applicability.

2. These regulations shall be applicable to courses starting in
October 1997 or later.
Eligibility.
shall have:
( a ) registered for and successfully completed the course of
studies in Planning Studies as provided in these
regulations;
( b ) completed the appropriate study programme and
satisfied any other requirements prescribed in these
regulations; and
( c ) complied with any other requirements prescribed in
any other relevant statutes and regulations of the
University.
Registration and 
special course 
requirements.
4. A candidate may register for the course of studies leading
to the Diploma if he is eligible for admission to the University in
accordance with the Admission Regulations of the University.
Duration of course.
year of full-time study or two academic years of part-time study.
(2) Extensions may be allowed by the Board on the
recommendation of the Board of Studies.
(3) A candidate may not complete the course in less than two
years or more than three years from first registration, except in
special circumstances with the permission of Senate, acting on the
advice of the Board.

6. (1) The course shall consist of study-units, to which not
less than 26 credits shall be assigned.
(2) Study-units may include lectures, workshops, seminars,
tutorials, projects and field study visits or combinations thereof as
determined by the Board, acting on the advice of the Board of

Studies.
(3) A catalogue of study-units, which shall give details of the
study-units, the method of assessment and the number of credits
assigned to each study-unit, shall be determined by the Board,
acting on the advice of the Board of Studies and published before
the commencement of the course.

7. (1) Study-units may be assessed either by coursework or
test (written or oral) or a combination of these as appropriate and as
determined by the Board, acting on the advice of the Board of
Studies.
(2) Credits shall be assigned according to the following grades
in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D and F, where F indicates
Fail.
(3) A candidate who fails to obtain a credit for a study-unit
shall normally be allowed to take one resit only per failed study-
unit. If a resit is taken the grade awarded shall be D or F.

examinations.

8. (1) The final examinations shall consist of three papers.
(2) If a candidate fails in one or more papers he may be
allowed by the Board, acting on the advice of the Board of Studies,
to re-sit the paper or papers on one further occasion only.

9. (1) The final result shall take account of the candidate’s
performance in the study-units and in the final examinations in the
following proportion:
Study-units 70%
Final examinations 30%.
(2) The names of successful candidates shall be published in
alphabetical order in the following categories:
Passed with Distinction
Passed.
