Selection of

2. The number of students that may be admitted to the course
shall be limited as provided in terms of the provisions of these
regulations.
Number of 
students.
3. The number of students shall be limited to twelve Maltese
students:
Provided that if the number of applicants falling in the last
category of applicants eligible to be admitted in terms of the
provisions of regulation 6(6) is such that the total number of
applicants to be admitted exceeds twelve, then all the applicants in
that category shall be admitted to the course notwithstanding the
limitation on numbers established in this regulation.
Requirements for 
registration.
4. In order to be admitted into the course applicants must
satisfy the requirements for registration as regular students of the
University as specified in the Admission Regulations and any other
requirements for admission to the course as specified in all the
regulations for the course.
Selection.
twelve applicants shall be selected by the University Admissions
Board, after seeking the advice of the Admissions Committee of the
Faculty of Dental Surgery, in accordance with the criteria for
selection as specified in regulation 6(6).
Criteria for 
selection.
6. (1) Grades obtained in the following subjects at the level
indicated shall be considered first: 
( a ) Chemistry at Advanced Level and Biology at
Advanced Level, hereafter referred to as the primary
subjects; and
( b ) Physics, at either Advanced or Intermediate Level,
hereafter referred to as the secondary subject.
(2) A grade obtained in the secondary subject taken at
Advanced Level, shall, for the purpose of selection, be given the

same value as the same grade obtained in the secondary subject at
Intermediate Level.
(3) An applicant in possession of the general entry
requirements, may offer passes in the primary subjects and/or in the
secondary subject, either as part of the general entry requirements
or in addition to the general entry requirements.
(4) When an applicant presents more than one pass in the same
subject, the best grade shall be taken into consideration.
(5) For the purpose of selection, a pass obtained in a session of
examinations which is held after the results of a previous session
were published, is deemed to be a pass obtained in a session that is
distinct from the previous one. This regulation shall also apply to
the supplementary session of the Matriculation Certificate
Examination offered by the MATSEC Board of the University of
Malta according to the provisions of the Matriculation Certificate
Regulations and this notwithstanding any other regulation
governing the award of the Matriculation Certificate.
(6) The twelve applicants shall be selected from amongst all
eligible Maltese applicants according to the following categories,
listed in order of preference:
1st Category: those with 2 "A"s in the primary subjects
and an "A" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
2nd Category: those with 2 "A"s in the primary subjects
and a "B" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
3rd Category: those with 2 "A"s in the primary subjects
and a "C" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
and those with 1 "A" and 1 "B" in the primary
subjects and an "A" in the secondary
subject obtained in one session
and those with 1 "A" and 1 "B" in the primary
subjects and a "B" in the secondary
subject obtained in one session
4th Category: those with 1 "A" and 1 "B" in the primary
subjects and a "C" in the secondary
subject obtained in one session
and those with 2 "B"s in the primary subjects
and an "A" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
and those with 2 "B"s in the primary subjects
and a "B" in the secondary subject
obtained in one session
5th Category: those with 2 "A"s in the primary subjects
and an "A" in the secondary subject
obtained in two sessions

(7) If there are fewer than twelve eligible Maltese applicants in
possession of the qualifications up to the 9th category, all these
shall be admitted and the Admissions Board shall admit the balance
after taking into account globally the overall grade of the
Matriculation Certificate, the grades obtained in the primary
subjects and in the secondary subject taken at Advanced Level and/
or at Intermediate Level and the number of sessions in which these
have been obtained.
