CERTIFICATE IN AGRICULTURE COURSE 
REGULATIONS

LEGAL NOTICE 274 of 2001.
Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Certificate in
Agriculture Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Institute of Agriculture;
"the Certificate" means the Certificate in Agriculture;
"the course" means the course of studies leading to the
Certificate in Agriculture; and
"the Institute" means the Institute of Agriculture.
Applicability.
February 2002 or later.
Eligibility for 
Certificate.
3. To be eligible for the award of the Certificate, students
must have:
( a ) been registered as students in the Institute for one
year;
( b ) completed the course of studies in Agriculture,
obtained the required credits and been successful in
the examinations held at the end of each semester; and
( c ) satisfied all other requirements laid down in these
regulations and in any other relevant statutes,
regulations and bye-laws of the University.
Admission to the 
course.
4. Applicants may be registered as students in the course if
they satisfy the entry requirements as regular students in terms of
the Admission Regulations of the University.
Duration of the 
course.
5. The course shall extend over two semesters of part-time
study.
Course of studies.
15 credits are assigned, as follows:
Crop Agricultural Science 4 credits
Animal Agricultural Science 4 credits
Agricultural Economics and Business Studies 3 credits
Soil Science and Agricultural Biotechnology 3 credits
Agricultural Practice 1 credit.
(2) Agricultural practice shall be carried out on one day a
week at an approved establishment and subject to continuous
assessment.

(3) A catalogue of study-units, indicating the code, title,
description, credits assigned to each study-unit and the method of
assessment shall be published by the Board before the
commencement of the course, following approval by Senate.
Assessment. 7. (1) Credits shall be assigned according to the following
grades in descending order of merit: A, B, C, D or F, where F
indicates Fail.
(2) Students who fail in a study-unit shall be allowed a re-
assessment only once; in the re-assessment, the maximum grade
that may be awarded shall be grade D.
Final result. 8. (1) Students’ final results shall take into account their
performance in the study-units.
(2) The names of the students who qualify for the award of the
Certificate shall be published in a list in alphabetical order and
classified as follows:
Passed with Distinction
Passed.
