BYE-LAWS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF 
PHILOSOPHY - M. PHIL. - IN THE 
INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR BAROQUE 
STUDIES

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these bye-laws is the Bye-Laws for the
Degree of Master of Philosophy - M.Phil. - in the International
Institute for Baroque Studies.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the International Institute for
Baroque Studies; and
"the Degree" means the Degree of Master of Philosophy- M.Phil.
Applicability.

3. The Degree shall be open to applicants who have graduated
at Honours level and were placed in the upper half of the
classification in the final examinations of the University of Malta
or another university recognized for this purpose by the Senate.
Special cases.

applications shall include evidence of proficiency and a
recommendation by a member of the academic staff willing to act
as supervisor. The Board may lay down additional requirements
including the taking of one or more qualifying examinations.
Proposed 
dissertation.
5. The applications for registration must include the title of
the proposed dissertation and a detailed research proposal of
approximately 1000 words.
Length of 
dissertation.
6. Unless otherwise specified by the Board, the length of the
dissertation shall not normally exceed 50,000 words.
Copies.
dissertation for examination which must be adequately bound.
Within one month of passing the examination of the dissertation,
students must submit two copies of the dissertation, one of which
should be deposited at the University Library bound as follows:
in cloth (preferably black) with stiff boards and good
quality end papers; with lettering (preferably in gold)
on the front and spine showing:
( a ) the name of the student;
( b ) the title or short title of the dissertation;
( c ) the degree for which the dissertation is
submitted; and

( d ) the year of submission.
Maps, diagrams, graphs, printed material, etc. should be
bound with the dissertation, but if this is not possible they should
be presented separately in special folders or volumes and
numbered.
Format. 8. The text must he typed on A4 sheets, on one side only, in
double spacing and with a margin of 40 mm to the left and at least
20 mm top, bottom and right.
