STATUTE I 12 - CENTRE FOR INTERNATIONAL 
BUSINESS STUDIES STATUTE

Citation.
International Business Studies Statute.
Centre for 
International 
Business Studies.
1. There is hereby established the Centre for International
Business Studies at the University of Malta.
Aims of the 
Centre.
2. The aims of the Centre shall be:
( a ) to promote International Tax Planning courses
covering also other aspects of offshore related
services;
( b ) to utilise academic resources and technical expertise
so that together with international specialists in the
field, it will research innovative methods to foster
systematic study of the various related subjects and
disciplines;
( c ) to provide opportunities for the acquisition of
marketable skills for people whose work commitments
prevent them from following conventional day-
courses; and
( d ) to develop structured programmes that may lead to the
granting of a diploma or degree of the University of
Malta.
Board.
follows:
Chairman: the Rector or his deputy;
Vice-Chairman: to be appointed by the Council of the
University;
The Director of the Centre;
not less than four and not more than ten persons to be
appointed by the Council of the University.
Functions of the 
Board.
4. The functions of the Board shall be:
( a ) to determine the policy of the Centre with regard to the
achievement of its aims;
( b ) to ensure the proper financial administration of the
Centre; and
( c ) to ensure collaboration with other bodies, local and
foreign, necessary for achieving the aims of the
Centre.

Director and staff. 5. (1) The Centre shall have a Director and staff.
(2) The Director shall be appointed by the Council of the
University for a period of three years following a call for
applications.
(3) Other academic members shall be appointed by the Council
of the University on the recommendations of the Board. The Board
may itself appoint non-academic staff for periods not exceeding
one year.
(4) Administrative and clerical staff shall be appointed by the
Board.
Treasurer of the 
Institute.
6. The Finance Officer of the University shall be the
Treasurer of the Centre, but he may, with the written approval of
the Rector, nominate a senior member of the staff to act in his
stead.
Administration of 
the Centre.
7. The Director shall be responsible for the day-to-day
administration of the Centre, according to the policy established by
the Board, the drawing up of the annual budget, financial
statements and for reporting on the activities of the Centre to the
Council.
Amendments. 8. Amendments to this statute may be proposed by the Board
and shall require the approval of Council.
