STATUTE I 20 - UNIVERSITY GOZO CENTRE 
STATUTE

Citation.
Centre Statute.
Establishment of 
Centre.
2. There is hereby established the Gozo Centre of the
University of Malta, hereinafter referred to as the "Centre".
Aims of Centre.
( a ) to assist in the logistical and similar aspects of degree,
diploma or certificate courses which the University
may from time to time organize in Gozo;
( b ) to organize conferences, seminars and similar
activities in Gozo;
( c ) to promote research in Gozitan affairs;
( d ) to develop links with Gozitan organizations in order to
organise joint activities with them;
( e ) to carry out other activities ancillary or conducive to
the above aims.
Governing Board.
follows:
Chairman: the Rector or his deputy;
Vice-Chairman: the Director of the Centre;
Members: a person appointed by the Council of the
University;
four persons appointed by Senate;
a member appointed by the Minister for
Gozo;
a student elected by and from students
following a degree or diploma course
held at the Centre;
the Registrar or his delegate to act as
Secretary of the Board;
the Finance Officer or his delegate to act
as Treasurer of the Board;
the Director General of the Foundation
for International Studies or his delegate.
Functions of the 
Board.
5. The functions of the Board shall be the following:

( a ) to determine the policy of the Centre with regard to the
attainment of its aims listed in paragraph 3;
( b ) to submit an annual budget for approval by Council
and to oversee the financial administration of the
Centre;
( c ) to make recommendations to Senate on the
introduction of certificate, diploma and degree courses
in Gozo, and to propose to the Faculty concerned
regulations and bye-laws for the running of these
courses;
( d ) to propose to the Faculty concerned the appointment of
members to serve on the board of studies and the
appointment of co-ordinators of courses, provided that
the Board may itself appoint co-ordinators of courses
and of other undertakings of the Centre that do not
lead to the award of a degree or diploma;
( e ) to appoint non-academic members of staff to
established posts but only for periods within the year
for which the estimates have been approved.
Meetings of the 
Board.
6. The Governing Board shall meet at least three times a year
and the rules of procedure of its meetings shall be drawn up by the
Board itself, provided that decisions relating to financial matters
shall be in line with the annual budget of the Centre.
The Director of the 
Centre.
7. The Director shall be responsible for the day to day
administration of the Centre according to the policy established by
the Board, the drawing up of the annual Budget and the financial
statement and report of the activities of the Centre for presentation
to the Council of the University. The Finance Officer of the
University shall be the Treasurer of the Centre.
Amendments. 8. Amendments to this statute may be proposed by the
Governing Board for the approval of the Council of the University.
