DIP. MANGT. - COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Diploma in
Management Studies - Dip. Mangt. - Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Economics,
Management and Accountancy;
"the course" means the course leading to the Diploma in
Management Studies - Dip. Mangt.;
"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Management Studies - Dip.
Mangt.

2. These regulations shall be applicable from October 2002.
Eligibility for the 
Diploma.
3. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma a candidate
shall:
( a ) be registered as a matriculated student in terms of the
Admission Regulations of the University;
( b ) satisfy any Special Course Requirements;
( c ) complete the course of studies, qualify in the
examinations and comply with all other requirements
prescribed in these regulations; and
( d ) comply with any other requirements prescribed in any
other relevant statutes and regulations of the
University.

Course of studies.
be completed within a minimum period of three years and a
maximum of five years of part-time studies.
(2) The course shall consist of:
( a ) study-units for which not less than 24 credits shall be
assigned; and
( b ) a supervised individual project.
(3) A catalogue of study-units, with the credits assigned to
each unit shall be approved by the Board and published before the

start of each semester. Some study-units may be indicated as
compulsory and others as optional.
(4) Some study-units may also involve guided field-work.
Candidates may be required to submit written reports on their field-
work and this shall be considered as an essential component of the
course for which credits are assigned.
Assessment. 6. (1) In each semester of the course candidates shall be
tested in the study-units covered during that semester in accordance
with the criteria established by the Board.
(2) The following grades shall be used in the assessment of
credits: A, B, C, D and F, in descending order of merit, with F
indicating failure.
(3) A candidate who fails in any study-unit may be allowed to
re-take the test or to repeat the entire study-unit. A candidate may
be allowed to repeat the entire study-unit only once. In such cases
the maximum grade a candidate can obtain shall be "D".

7. (1) Each candidate shall be required to write an essay of
approximately 5,000 words on an approved topic intended to
illustrate the student’s ability to integrate the various aspects of the
course of studies. Two credits shall be assigned to the writing of
the essay.
(2) The essay shall be submitted two calendar months prior to
the end of the final examinations.
Final 
examinations.
8. (1) Written comprehensive examinations shall be held at
the end of the course. Only candidates who have obtained at least
24 credits shall be admitted to the examinations.
(2) Candidates may also be required to sit for a  viva voce
examination.
Final grading. 9. (1) The final grading shall be based on the study-units, the
essay, and the final examinations.
(2) A candidate shall not be awarded the Diploma unless he
obtains a Pass in each part of the course of studies (that is the
study-units, the essay and the final examinations).
(3) The names of candidates who qualify for the Diploma shall
be published in alphabetical order in the categories:
Passed with Distinction
Passed.
