STATUTE I 22 - INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR 
BAROQUE STUDIES STATUTE

Citation.
Institute for Baroque Studies Statute.

Institute for 
Baroque Studies.
2. There is hereby established the International Institute for
Baroque Studies hereinafter referred to as "the Institute".
Aims of the 
Institute.
3. The aims of the Institute shall be the following:
( a ) to promote the pursuit of interdisciplinary, academic
studies on various aspects of Baroque culture by
serving as a focal centre for both local and foreign
scholars involved in research on various aspects of
Baroque culture, enabling them to disseminate their
work among both fellow academics and the general
public;
( b ) to organize symposiums, public lecture series,
exhibitions, photographic competitions and other
activities leading to a greater appreciation of Baroque
culture, with particular reference to Malta;
( c ) to network and liaison with similar centres for
Baroque studies overseas;
( d ) to initiate and constitute a research resource centre on
Baroque art and architecture, including a data base and
reference index of existing publications on the
Baroque era with special emphasis on the Maltese
Baroque; and
( e ) to provide advice and assistance in the conservation of
the Baroque heritage of Malta.
Board.
the following members:
Chairman: the Rector or his delegate;
Vice-Chairman: Director-General of the Foundation
for International Studies or his
delegate;
Secretary: the Director of the Institute;
Treasurer: the Finance Officer of the
University or his delegate;
Members: the Dean of the Faculty of Arts or
his delegate;

the Dean of the Faculty of
Architecture & Civil Engineering or
his delegate;
two scholars of repute co-opted by
the Board.
Functions of the 
Board.
5. The functions of the Board shall be the following:
( a ) to determine the policy of the Institute with regard to
the objectives stated above;
( b ) to ensure the proper financial and other administration
of the Institute;
( c ) to carry out such other functions as are assigned to it
by this statute or are conducive or ancillary thereto.
Director and staff. 6. (1) The Institute shall have a Director and a staff.
(2) The Director shall be appointed following a call for
applications by the Council of the University for a period of five
years, with the possibility of renewal on the recommendation of the
Board.

(3) Administrative and clerical staff shall be appointed by the
Board according to the provisions of article 4 of Statute I 00.
Functions of the 
Director.
7. The functions of the Director shall be:
( a ) to supervise the day to day administration of the
Institute, according to the policy determined by the
Board;
( b ) to prepare the annual budget of the Institute and to
submit it to the Board; and
( c ) to submit an annual financial statement and an annual
report on the activities of the Institute to Senate and
Council.
Working 
agreements.
8. The Board of the Institute shall establish working
agreements with the Foundation for International Studies and the
Network of Institutes of Baroque Studies in Italy.
International 
Advisory 
Committee.
9. The Board may also appoint an International Advisory
Committee.
Amendments. 10. Amendments to this statute may be proposed by the Board
for approval by the Council of the University.
