MASTER OF ARTS IN CREATIVITY AND 
INNOVATION - M.A. - DEGREE COURSE 
REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Master of Arts in
Creativity and Innovation - M A. - Degree Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies for the Degree
appointed by Senate to implement these regulations, on the
recommendation of the Board of the Centre for Communication
Technology;
"the course" means the course of studies and research, leading to
the Degree of Master of Arts in Creativity and Innovation;
"the Degree" means the Degree of Master of Arts in Creativity
and Innovation - M.A.

Board of Studies appointed by Senate in terms of the Board of
Studies Regulations of the University.
Applicability.
1996 or later.
Qualifications for 
admission.
4. (1) Subject to the provisions of subregulation (2), to be
registered in the course, students must:
( a ) be in possession of a university degree with First or
Second Class Honours in any related subject approved
by the Board of Studies for this purpose; or
( b ) be in possession of a professional qualification
recognized by the University of Malta for the purpose
of admittance to the course together with a minimum
of three years work experience at senior level.
(2) In exceptional cases students who have other qualifications
together with extensive work or academic experience which
renders them suitable students for the course may be admitted with
the approval of Senate acting on the advice of the Board of Studies.

Course duration.

(2) In exceptional circumstances a student may be allowed by
the Board of studies to complete the course within a maximum

period of twenty four months after registration.
(3) Students may, with the permission of the Board of Studies,
register as part-time students. Each period of part-time study shall
be equivalent to half the same period of full-time study.
Course of studies. 7. The course shall consist of three parts: Part One, Part Two
and Part Three as follows:
( a ) Part One shall extend over one academic semester. It
shall consist of study-units for which not less than ten
credits shall be assigned. A catalogue of study-units
and the credits assigned to each study-unit shall be
published before the start of the first semester. Some
study-units may be indicated as compulsory and others
as optional. The study-units may involve supervised
practical work. Students shall be considered to have
successfully completed Part One if they obtain not less
than ten credits including credits for compulsory units.
( b ) Part Two shall extend over one academic semester. It
shall consist of study-units consisting entirely of
research and practical work. Supervisors shall be
allocated to students in this respect. A minimum of
twelve study-units should be completed by each
student in Part Two.
( c ) Part Three shall extend over one academic semester
and shall consist of a supervised research project or a
dissertation on a subject approved by the Board of
Studies.
Continuous 
assessment.
8. (1) Students shall be assessed in the study-units covered in
accordance with the criteria established by the Board of Studies.
(2) The following grades shall be used in the assignment of
credits: A, B, C, D and F, in descending order of merit, with F
indicating failure.
(3) A student who fails in a study-unit may be allowed to be
re-assessed once. In the case of re-assessment, the maximum grade
a student can obtain is grade D.
Attendance. 9. A student who, after due warning given in writing,
persistently fails to attend lectures and/or tutorials or otherwise
does not carry out his academic duties without justification may be
debarred by Senate, following a recommendation of the Board of
Studies, from sitting for any or all of the examinations.
Examinations. 10. (1) At the end of Part Two, after having successfully
completed both Part One and Part Two of the course, a student shall
be required to sit for the final written examination. This shall
consist of two papers. In order to satisfy the final written
examination requirement the student must obtain a pass grade in
each of the two papers.
(2) Students who fail the final written examination shall be
allowed to sit for a supplementary examination in the paper/e
which they fail on a date to be decided by the Board of Studies after
the publication of the results. Students can re-sit the final written
examination only once and the maximum grade obtained in the re-

sit examination shall be Grade D. The written supplementary
examination shall be held not later than six months after the date of
the publication of results.
Project/
Dissertation.
11. (1) During Part Three of the course students shall be
required to complete a research project or a dissertation.
(2) A supervisor shall be appointed by the Board of Studies for
every project or dissertation. The supervisor shall require the
student to report to him as often as he deems necessary and shall
report to the Board of Studies a student whose progress he
considers unsatisfactory.
(3) Students must submit the proposed title and an outline of
the project or dissertation for approval by the Board of Studies by
not later than the end of Part Two of the course.
(4) The project or the dissertation must satisfy the Board of
Studies as regards format and presentation.
(5) The project or dissertation shall be 20,000 to 25,000 words
in length (excluding headings, tables, references and appendices).
The Board of Studies may extend the length of the project or
dissertation on the recommendation of the supervisor.
(6) The project or the dissertation must be submitted in its
final form not later than the eighteenth month from the
commencement of the course, unless an extension is granted by the
Board of Studies.
(7) A  viva voce  examination on the project or the dissertation
may also be held.
(8) Failure in the project or dissertation may require re-
submission or constitute an outright failure depending on the extent
of the failure. The decision in this regard shall be taken by the
Board of Studies.
Final grading.
( a ) the study-units - 20%
( b ) the practical study-units - 20%
( c ) the final written examination - 25%
( d ) the project/dissertation - 35%.
(2) The names of the students who have qualified for the
Degree shall be published in alphabetical order in two categories:
Passed with Distinction
Passed.
