DIPLOMA IN COMMERCE - DIP. COM. - COURSE 
REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Diploma in
Commerce - Dip. Com. - Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Economics,
Management and Accountancy;
"the course" means the course leading to the Diploma;
"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Commerce - Dip. Com.
Applicability.
1996 or later.
Eligibility for the 
award of the 
Diploma.
3. To be eligible for the award of the Diploma, a student
must:
( a ) be registered as a regular student in terms of the
Admission Regulations of the University;
( b ) satisfy any special course requirement;
( c ) complete the course of studies, qualify in the
examinations and comply with all other requirements
prescribed in these regulations; and
( d ) comply with any other requirements prescribed in any
other relevant statutes and regulations of the
University.

Course of studies.
be completed within a minimum period of two semesters and a
maximum of three semesters of fulltime studies, or their equivalent
in part-time studies.
(2) The course shall consist of study-units for which not less
than 28 credits shall be assigned in the following modules:
Economics, Accountancy, Finance, Management, Business
Computer Applications, and Behavioural Studies.
(3) A catalogue of study-units, with the credits assigned to
each unit, shall be approved by the Faculty Board and published
before the start of the course. Some study-units may be indicated as
compulsory and others as optional.
(4) In each semester of the course, candidates shall be tested in

the study-units covered during that semester in accordance with the
criteria established by the Board.
(5) The following grades shall be used in the assignment of
credits: A, B, C, D and F, in descending order of merit, with F
indicating failure.
(6) A candidate who fails in any study-unit may be allowed to
retake the test only once. The maximum grade a candidate can
obtain from a retaken test shall be D. 
Final examination. 6. (1) A written comprehensive final examination shall be
held at the end of the course: only candidates who have obtained at
least 26 credits shall be admitted to the examination.
(2) A candidate who fails in the final examination may be
allowed to sit for a supplementary examination only once.
Final grading. 7. (1) The final results shall be based on the credits obtained
and on the final examination, with credits being weighed 30% for
the award of the final grade and the final examination being given
the remaining 70% weighting.
(2) A candidate shall not be awarded the Diploma unless he
obtains a pass in the final examination.
(3) The names of candidates who qualify for the Diploma shall
be published in alphabetical order in the categories.
