BYE-LAWS FOR THE DEGREE OF
MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY - M. PHIL. -
IN THE FACULTY OF LAWS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these bye-laws is Bye-Laws for the Degree
of Master of Philosophy - M. Phil. - in the Faculty of Laws.
(2) In these Bye-laws unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Laws;
"the Degree" means the Degree of Master of Philosophy - M.
Phil.

graduated either with an LL. D., or with a degree with Law as an
area of study and were placed in the upper half of the classification
in the examinations of the University of Malta or another university
recognised for this purpose by the Senate.
Special cases.

applications shall include evidence that the candidate has attained
the level of proficiency stipulated in bye-law 3 and a
recommendation by a member of the academic staff willing to act
as supervisor. The Board may lay down additional requirements
including the taking of one or more qualifying examinations.
Application for 
registration.
5. The application for registration must include the title of the
proposed dissertation and a brief account of it.
Dissertation.
the length of the dissertation shall not exceed 50,000 words.
Copies.

Within one month of passing the examination of the dissertation,
the student must submit two copies of the dissertation, one of
which should be deposited at the University Library bound as
follows:
in cloth (preferably black) with stiff boards and good
quality end papers; with lettering (preferably in gold)
on the front and spine showing:
(i) the name of the student;
(ii) the title or short title of the dissertation;
(iii) the degree for which the dissertation is

submitted; and
(iv) the year of submission.
Maps, diagrams, graphs, printed material, etc., should be
bound with the dissertation, but if this is not possible they should
be presented separately in special folders or volumes and
numbered.
Text. 8. The text must be typed on A4 sheets, on one side only, in
double spacing and with a margin of 40 mm to the left and at least
20 mm to the top bottom and right.
