AQUACULTURE REGULATIONS
29th May, 1990
LEGAL NOTICE 73 of 1990.
Title.
Interpretation.
requires-
"Director" means the Director of Agriculture and Fisheries and
includes any officer of the department duly authorised by the
Director to act on his behalf;
"to fatten" means to keep fish from the fingerling stage to market
size;
"to rear" means to breed and rear up to the fingerling stage and
includes the selling of broodstock;
"to keep" includes to rear and to fatten;
"fish" includes fin fish, molluscs and crustaceans, whether of
fresh or of sea-water.
Licence to keep, 
rear or fatten fish.
3. No person shall keep, rear or fatten farmed fish, whether as
owner, part-owner or assistant, unless he holds a licence issued to
him. 
Form of 
application.
4. A licence as provided for in regulation 3 may be granted by
the Director after consideration of the application made on the
appropriate form issued by him.
Fish farms. 
that place is licensed as a fish farm for any or all of those specific
purposes.
Requirements of 
licence.
6. No licence for a fish farm shall be issued unless the
requirements laid down in the form of application are satisfied. 
Revocation of 
licence. 
7.   The Director may at any time revoke a licence if the place
licensed is found lacking in any of the conditions mentioned in the
licence, or if in the opinion of the Director there is a risk of the
spread of disease. 
Validity of 
licences.
8.  Licences shall be valid for one calendar year, and may be
renewed from year to year. 
Distance between 
farms.
9. The minimum distance between any two fish farms shall be
one kilometre, provided that the Director may establish a greater
distance at his discretion according to the particular circumstances
of each case.
Extensions and 
alterations.
10. No extensions or alterations in any licensed place may be
carried out unless previously authorised by the Director.
Movement of fish.
any live fish or live fish products to be moved from a licensed place

to any other place unless he has obtained permission to do so in
writing from the Director.
Imports. 12. No person shall import live fish or live fish products
destined for farming unless he has obtained permission to do so in
writing from the Director. A health certificate from the point of
origin may be required.
Inspection.  13. The Director may inspect licensed premises at any time in
order to ensure that the licence conditions are being complied with.
Requirements 
under any other 
law.
14. A licensee under these Regulations shall not be exempt
from complying with the requirements of any other law or
regulation which may be in force from time to time.
