ORAL RETINOID MEDICINAL PREPARATIONS 
REGULATIONS

Authorization to 
prescribe 
preparation.
2. (1) No medical practitioner, dental surgeon or dentist may
prescribe any oral retinoid medicinal preparation to any patient
unless he has in respect of that patient a written authorisation so to
prescribe from the Superintendent of Public Health.
(2) The Superintendent of Public Health shall grant such
authorisation if he is so advised by a panel made up of government
medical consultants appointed by him for the purpose. For the
purposes of making their recommendations the panel shall have the
right to examine the patient in respect of whom a request for
approval of such prescription has been made.
(3) Any authorisation issued by the Superintendent of Public
Health for the purposes of this regulation shall include an
authorisation number which shall be quoted on the prescription
issued by the medical practitioner, dental surgeon or dentist who
has been authorised accordingly.
(4) The provisions of this regulation shall not apply to any
prescription for such preparations issued by a consultant
dermatologist in the employment of Government when such
prescription is issued from a government hospital or clinic.
