STATUTE I 00 - GENERAL PROVISIONS 
REGARDING INSTITUTES OF THE UNIVERSITY

Citation.
regarding Institutes of the University Statute.
Applicability of 
provisions.
Cap. 327.
1. The provisions of this Statute shall apply to any institute,
or other entity of a similar nature, established by the Council of the
University in terms of the Education Act, and which receives funds
from, or through, the University, unless the Statute establishing
such institute or other entity expressly provides otherwise.
1.1 Any reference in this Statute to institute or institutes shall
be construed as applying also to any other entity or entitites
established as above.
Board.
which shall be the Rector or his nominated deputy:
Provided that, in special cases, the Statute of an Institute
may provide for the Chairman of the Board being someone other
than the Rector in which case the Rector shall be a member of the
Board.
2.1 The Finance Officer or the University shall be the
Treasurer of the Institute, but he may, with the written approval of
the Rector, nominate a senior member of his staff to act in his
stead.
Functions of the 
Board.
3. The functions of the Board of the Institute shall include the
following:
( a ) to seek funding from any appropriate source, including
the University, in order to carry out its programme;
( b ) to submit annual estimates of income and expenditure
of the Council for its approval, and to administer its
financial affairs in accordance with the estimates as
approved by the Council;
( c ) to submit to the Council an annual report of its
activities, which shall include its audited accounts.
Appointments to 
posts.
4. Any appointments to posts approved in the estimates shall
be made by the Council in accordance with the provisions of
Statute 7 or 8 as the case may be:
Provided that the Board of the Institute may itself appoint
part-time non-academic members of staff to established posts but
only for periods within the year for which the estimates have been
approved.
