BYE-LAWS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF 
PHILOSOPHY - M.PHIL. - IN THE 
MEDITERRANEAN INSTITUTE

LEGAL NOTICE 35 of 1998.
Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these bye-laws is Bye-Laws for the Degree
of Master of Philosophy - M.Phil. - in the Mediterranean Institute.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Mediterranean Institute;
"the course" means the course leading to the Degree of Master of
Philosophy- M.Phil.;
"the Degree" means the Degree of Master of Philosophy -
M.Phil.; and
"the Institute" means the Mediterranean Institute.

recommendation.
4. Candidates who do not satisfy the requirements in bye-law
3 may, in special cases, apply to the Board for permission to
register. Such applications must include evidence of proficiency
and a recommendation by a member of the academic staff willing
to act as supervisor. The Board may lay down additional
requirements including the taking of one or more qualifying
examinations.

Dissertation format

6. A student shall be required to submit three copies of the
dissertation adequately bound for examination. Within three
months of passing the examination of the dissertation, the student
must submit two copies of the dissertation, one of which should be
deposited at the University Library bound as follows:
in cloth (preferably black) with stiff boards and good
quality end papers; with lettering (preferably in gold)
on the front and spine showing:
(i) the name of the student;
(ii) the title or short title of the dissertation;
(iii) the degree for which the dissertation is

submitted; and
(iv) the year of submission.
Maps, diagrams, graphs, printed material, etc. should be
bound with the dissertation, but if this is not possible they should
be presented separately in special folders or volumes and
numbered.
Format. 7. The text must be typed on A4 sheets, on one side only, in
double line spacing and with a margin of 40 mm to the left and at
least 20 mm top, bottom and right.
