BYE-LAWS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF 
PHILOSOPHY PH.D. - IN THE FACULTY OF 
MEDICINE AND SURGERY

LEGAL NOTICE 246 of 1998.
Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these bye-laws is Bye-Laws for the Degree
of Doctor of Philosophy - Ph.D. - in the Faculty of Medicine and
Surgery.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Board" means the Board of the Faculty of Medicine and
Surgery;
"the course" means the course leading to the Degree of Doctor of
Philosophy - Ph.D.;
"the Degree" means the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy - Ph.D.;
and
"the Faculty" means the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery.
Applicability.
started in October 1993 or later.
Registration.
( a ) students who are registered for the course leading to
the degree of Master of Philosophy in the Faculty and
who have completed fifteen months of full-time study
and are allowed to transfer to the Degree by Senate
after the recommendation of the Board; and
( b ) applicants who are in possession of a relevant Master’s
degree recognised for this purpose by the Senate.
Thesis.
Short abstract.
thesis, of not more than 300 words, with each copy of the thesis
submitted to the University.
Copies.
for examination which must be adequately bound. Within three
months of passing the thesis examination, and before conferment of
the Degree, students must submit three copies of the thesis bound
as follows:
Size of paper: A4 ( 11.7" x 8.3")
Margin: 1.5" on the left to allow for binding
Bindings: Art vellum or cloth: overcast; edges uncut;
lettered boldly up back and in gold (1.25" to 0.5")
