STATUTE I 13 - INSTITUTE OF YOUTH STUDIES 
STATUTE

Citation.
Studies Statute.
Institute of Youth 
Studies.
1. There is hereby established an Institute of Youth Studies at
the University of Malta.
Aims of the 
Institute.
2. The aims of the Institute shall be:
( a ) to organise certificate, diploma and degree courses
subject to the statutes and regulations of the
University;
( b ) to conduct research with a focus on youth studies;
( c ) to organise conferences, seminars and other meetings
to study topics of interest related to youth studies;
( d ) to develop international links with similar institutions
and Universities abroad, especially those that
specialise in youth studies; and
( e ) to carry out all other acts ancillary or conducive to the
foregoing aims.
Board.
composed as follows:
Chairman: The Rector or his deputy;
Vice-Chairman: The Director of the Institute;
one member appointed by the Minister responsible for
Youth;
one member appointed by the National Council of
Youth;
one member elected from and by the academic staff of
the Institute;
one member elected from and by the students of the
Institute;
one member appointed by Council;
one member appointed by Senate;
two additional members who may be co-opted by the
Board.
Functions of the 
Board.
4. The functions of the Board shall be the following:
( a ) to determine the policy of the Institute with regard to

the achievement of the aims of the Institute;
( b ) to ensure the proper financial administration of the
Institute; and
( c ) to collaborate with other bodies, local and foreign as
necessary for the achievement of the aims of the
Institute.
Director and staff. 5. (1) The Institute shall have a Director and staff.
(2) The Director shall be appointed by the Council of the
University for a period of three years following a call for
applications.
(3) Academic staff shall be appointed by the Council on the
recommendation of the Board.
(4) Administrative and clerical staff shall be appointed by the
Board.
Treasurer of the 
Institute.
6. The Finance Officer of the University shall be the
Treasurer of the Institute. The Director shall prepare the annual
budget of the Institute and submit it to the Board for approval. The
Director shall also submit to Council a financial statement and to
Senate and Council an annual report on the activities of the
Institute.
Amendments. 7. Amendments to this statute may be proposed by the Board
and shall require the approval of Council.
