DEGREE COURSE REGULATIONS

Citation and 
interpretation.
1. (1) The title of these regulations is the Bachelor of Arts in
Theology and Human Studies (Honours) - B.A. (Hons.) - Degree
Course Regulations.
(2) In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the course" means the course leading to the Degree of Bachelor
of Arts in Theology and Human Studies (Honours) - B.A. (Hons.);
"the Degree" means the Degree of Bachelor of Arts in Theology
and Human Studies (Honours) - B.A. (Hons.).
Applicability.

2. These regulations shall be applicable from March 1996
onwards.
Eligibility for the 
Degree.
3. In order to be eligible for the Degree a candidate must
have:
( a ) completed the appropriate course of studies;
( b ) been successful in the relevant examinations; and
( c ) satisfied all other requirements laid down in these
regulations and in any other relevant statutes and
regulations of the University.

4. A candidate may be registered for the course if he has any
one of the following qualifications:
( a ) the degree of B.A. in Theology and Human Studies or
the B.A. in Religious Studies obtained from the
University of Malta and placed in Category I or II,
provided that candidates in possession of the B.A. in
Religious Studies obtained prior to 1996 and placed in
Category I, II or III are also eligible to register;
( b ) another degree from the University of Malta or another
university, provided that such degree includes not less
than 20 credits in Theology or Religious Studies and
the average grade in these credits is at least B;
( c ) study for five years, on a full-time basis, of Philosophy
and Theology in a Major Seminary or in an institution
which, in the opinion of the Faculty Board, is of a
similar academic standing and obtainment of at least
an average of grade B in the relative tests or
examinations.

and coordinator.
5. (1) A Board of studies consisting of the Dean and three

other members shall be appointed by the Faculty Board for a period
of three years to manage and supervise the course in accordance
with these regulations. The Dean shall be the Chairman of the
Board of studies.
(2) The Faculty Board shall appoint a course coordinator for a
period of three years from among the members of the Board of
studies.
Duration of course. 6. (1) The course shall extend over a period of one academic
year if taken on a full-time basis, or two academic years if taken on
a part-time basis.
(2) On registering for the course a candidate shall be required
to state whether he shall be following the course as a full-time or a
part-time student.
(3) A candidate may not complete the course earlier than one
academic year and later than the prescribed time except with the
permission of Senate.
Contents of course. 7. (1) To complete the course a candidate must obtain a
minimum of 22 credits in the following areas of study and
according to the following proportion:
( a ) 10 credits in Theology,
( b ) 2 credits in Mediterranean Religions,
( c ) 4 credits in Philosophy and Phenomenology of
Religion, and
( d ) a dissertation equivalent to 6 credits.
(2) Before the start of each academic year a catalogue of
study-units and of the credits assigned to each study-unit shall be
published by the Faculty Board, after its approval by Senate.
Final examination. 8. (1) A candidate shall be required to sit for the Final
examination at the end of the course after having obtained all the
required credits as laid down in these regulations,
(2) The final examination shall normally be held in May/June
and shall consist of two papers. A  viva voce  examination may also
be held.
(3) To pass the final examination a student must be successful
in each paper.
(4) A student who fails in any of the two papers may resit that
paper in which he has failed only once and within six months.
(5) In the resit the grade obtained shall be either "Passed" or
"Failed".
Final result. 9. (1) The final result shall be based on the candidate’s grade
obtained in the final examination and the grades of the credits
required for the completion of the course.
(2) The final result shall be determined according to the
following proportion:

dissertation 10%.
(3) The names of the candidates who qualify for the award of
the Degree shall be published in alphabetical order and classified as
follows:
First Class (Honours)
Second Class, Upper Division (Honours)
Second Class, Lower Division (Honours)
Third Class (Honours)
Passed.
Award of the 
Degree.
10. On successful completion of the course, candidates shall be
awarded the Degree.
