STATUTE 11 - QUALITY ASSURANCE AND 
ACADEMIC AUDIT STATUTE

2. This statute shall be applicable from 1st October 2001
onwards.
STATUTE 11- QUALITY ASSURANCE AND ACADEMIC 
AUDIT
1. The University will establish and regularly review policies
on academic standards. In order to ensure that these policies are
implemented and that the desire quality standards are met, a
Quality Assurance Committee and an Academic Audit Unit will be
set up.
2. The terms of reference of the Quality Assurance
Committee shall include the following:
( a ) establishing procedures for the evaluation and
promotion of quality teaching, research and
administrative services;
( b ) instituting schemes to reward quality services and
innovative teaching approaches, research and
administrative services; and
( c ) proposing ways of improving the University’s support
services to teaching, research and administrative
services.

3. The Quality Assurance Committee shall be composed as
follows:
the Rector, or Pro-Rector as his delegate (Chairman)
the Director of the Academic Audit Unit (Secretary)
the Registrar or his delegate
eight senior members of the academic staff appointed
by Senate to represent different disciplines
one academic member representing the academic staff
union
one member of the non-academic staff
one student appointed by Senate from amongst its
student representatives.
4. The Academic Audit Unit shall be composed of a Director

who will be a senior member of the academic staff serving the Unit
on a part-time basis, a full-time senior administrator, and such
other staff as may be required from time to time.
