CATTLE PLAGUE REGULATIONS 
18th April, 1947
GOVERNMENT NOTICE 169 of 1947, as amended by Government
Notices 293 and 380 of 1947.
Title.
Interpretation.
Inoculation of 
bovines.

3. All bovines shall be inoculated against the cattle plague.
Type of vaccine

4. The vaccine used for such inoculation shall be any one of
the vaccines approved for the purpose by the government
veterinary surgeon.
Inoculated bovines 
to be marked.
5. All bovines inoculated against cattle plague shall be
marked in such a way as to render future identification possible.
Mortality.
accordance with regulation 4, compensation shall be paid to the
owner if the government veterinary surgeon is satisfied that death
is the direct result of the inoculation.
Compensation.
( a ) full market value of the live animal less the meat value
if the carcase is passed for human consumption;
( b ) full market value of the live animal if the carcase is not
passed for human consumption.
Prohibition to sell 
if bovines have not 
been inoculated.
8. No person shall sell or purchase bovines which have not
been inoculated against cattle plague.
Imported cattle.

10. Imported bovines which have been inoculated against
cattle plague shall not be moved without a written permit from the
government veterinary surgeon who, previously to issuing such a
permit, shall satisfy himself that the animals have acquired
immunity.
Bovines to be 
taken to 
inoculation 
centres.
11. Owners or persons in possession of bovines shall take them
to inoculation centres as and when required to do so by a general
notice issued by the government veterinary surgeon and published
in the Government Gazette or by a special notice addressed to the
owner or person in possession of bovines for the purpose of having
the bovines inoculated against cattle plague.
Prohibition to 
transport cattle, 
goats, etc., from 
Malta to Gozo.
12. No person shall transport or cause to be transported any
cattle, goats, sheep or pigs from Malta to Gozo.

13. No person shall transport or cause to be transported any
cattle from Gozo to Malta:
Provided that it shall be lawful for any person who is in
possession of a written permit issued by the government veterinary
surgeon to transport or cause to be transported cattle from Gozo to
Malta for the purpose of slaughtering such cattle at the abattoir in
Malta:
Provided further that this regulation shall not apply to cattle
in respect of which a certificate of immunization against cattle
plague by the government veterinary surgeon can be produced.
