LOCAL COUNCILS (STREET NAMING) 
REGULATIONS

Naming of streets 
within a locality.

2. The naming or renaming of streets, other than arterial and
distributor roads determined by the Structure Plan as specified in article
33(2) of the Local Councils Act, shall take place after the Local Council
of that locality submits its recommendation to the Minister responsible
for the Police who shall, prior to directing the alteration of the name of
any street or giving or approving a name to a new street in terms of
article 22 of the Code of Police Laws, refer such recommendation to the
appropriate Street Naming Committee for its advice.

3. The naming or renaming of arterial and distributor roads
determined by the Structure Plan, national monuments, national parks or
gardens, industrial estates, ports, airports and other national territories,
establishments, buildings and items listed in the Fourth Schedule to the
Local Councils Act, and as specified in article 33(2) of the same Act,
shall be directed by the Minister responsible for the Police in terms of
article 22 of the Code of Police Laws, who shall act on the
recommendation of the appropriate Street Naming Committee after such
committee consults all the Local Councils of the localities bordering on
the area to be so named.

4. (1) A Local Council or a Street Naming Committee, as the case
may be, shall not submit a recommendation for the alteration of the
name of any street within any locality or of any road or area specified in
regulation 3 unless a valid reason for such change subsists.
(2) The naming or renaming of streets, roads and any other
specified area after persons may only take place after their decease.
