PUBLIC WEIGHERS’ EXAMINATION 
REGULATIONS

1. The title of these Regulations is Public Weighers’
Examination Regulations.

2. (1) Applicants for a licence to act as a public weigher shall
be examined in the subjects as detailed in the Schedule to these
Regulations and shall undergo a practical test in the work of the
public weighers.
(2) No person shall be admitted to such examination unless -
( a ) he is above eighteen years of age on the day of the
examination;
( b ) he is of good conduct; and
( c ) he produces satisfactory evidence that he has obtained
six months’ experience under an authorised public
weigher in the management of the steelyard and
balance.
(3) Applications accompanied by certificates referred to in
paragraphs ( a ), ( b ) and ( c ) of sub-regulation (2) of this regulation
should be addressed to the Director of Eduction.
(4) An admission fee of twenty-five cents shall be paid by
every candidate before being admitted to the examination.

MECHANICS  - Mass, length, time
and their units (S.I.). Density of
solids and liquids. Vector quantities.
Representations of forces as
vectors; the parallelogram of forces;
triangle of forces; spring and direct
reading balances. Moment of a
force; couples; centre of mass; its
determination in simple cases;
Stability. The principles of simple
machines, e.g. level inclined plane,
simple pulley systems, screw. The
common balance and the steel-yard.
Uniform velocity and uniform
acceleration of a straight line.
Momentum - Force as a rate of
change of momentum.
