A Comparison between the effects of Proper and Il-Fitting Footwear on the Feet

AbstractFootwear has long been considered as a fashion accessory and a status symbol. Shoe fashions change over the years and tight ill-fitting footwear has been considered to alter the function of the foot. There have been several studies on how constrictive footwear and high-heeled shoes affect the foot's function and stability. There is evidence that forefoot deformities occur on women's feet more frequently than on men's feet. Other important factors can alter the normal function of the foot such as the shoe size and length which must also conform to the foot. The material of the shoe must allow adequate ventilation i.e. leather and should be light enough to allow adequate flexibility of the shoe and foot. Ill-fitting footwear can cause or contribute to many common foot problems. Apart from this, other foot problems can benefit from adequate fitting shoes or modified footwear, i.e. orthopaedic footwear.
