| Abstract | Imaging beyond plain film radiography is usually not necessary for investigating scoliosis. Modern imaging such as Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) are only indicated in particular cases, namely idiopathic scoliosis with neurological symptoms and congenital scoliosis with structural abnormality. Reducing radiation dose, during scoliosis examinations is very important as the patients are mainly adolescents. Therefore fast film-screen systems or computed radiography should be used. Also because of the potential harm from exposure to radiation, other imaging techniques that do not make use of ionising radiation are being investigated. |
