Fetal Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Does it have more Diagnostic Value than Ultrasound in certain Fetal Anomalies ?

AbstractThe objective of this study was to evaluate the role of fetal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in evaluation of fetal anomalies in comparison with ultrasound (US). Through the literature search, it was several times reported that US is the initial imaging modality of choice for evaluation of patients in obstetrics. However the results of US are not always sufficient. MRI, which uses no ionizing radiation, may be an ideal method for further evaluation. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging is an important adjunct to obstetrical ultrasound, particularly in the evaluation of complex fetal anomalies.
