Abstract | Diagnostic radiography has attained some changes in the way it is carried out due to the introduction of digital radiography. It is essential to make the radiographers aware of these differences between conventional and digital radiography. This project has gone through literature search and evaluated digital radiography systems in regards to the radiological procedure mostly carried out in most departments (i.e. Chest radiography). Maltese radiographers are still not convinces that this new technology will eventually prove that it is better than conventional imaging. This may be mostly due to the lack of information made available. Thus a list of advantages and disadvantages of digital imaging has been made available, and the evaluating factors for evaluating a flat panel detector were made available. A list of the different systems of digital radiography is available, and Evaluated at a later stage. A discussion based on the current situation of chest radiography at St. Lukes hospital and other private hospitals around Malta and how these can be improved has been carried out. Finally a list of conclusions and recommendations has been set up for a smoother transition from film to digital of the Maltese imaging department. |
