AbstractRequests for ambulance services have increased drastically over the past decade on our island. Since health care has finite resources, the worlds of need, demand and supply have to be met giving concern to the control of costs in every area of health care. There is a worldwide tendency for health care systems to be put under pressure to improve, the main focus being especially on the way resources are managed. In a local study to measure ambulance service response time, the ambulance service for emergency calls fails to reach site of incident in eight minutes in most cases. This is the target time to reach site of incident for ambulance services in most European countries. While adding staff and vehicles is the most definitive solution to the response time issue, it is also the most expensive. Thus, this study aims to identify the factors which may help or hinder the speed of the provision of ambulance service throughout
