Malta Health Sciences

Research Database

This database is a central repository for research carried out in Malta in any of the Health Sciences including communication, dentistry, management, medicine (and its subspecialties), midwifery, nursing, nutrition, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology, public health, radiography and social policy.  Students preparing a research proposal will find the data contained useful, as will, we hope, anyone who is seeking to conduct original research and seeks to review the Maltese literature.

This database contains abstracts from theses, dissertations, case reports, and original research conducted in the Maltese Islands. These can be searched via key words, or through the author or title. Where possible we have also included a link to the web site where the original text can be found. The purpose of this modern version of Melitensia is to collate research conducted in Malta on Maltese subjects. Research work by Maltese health professionals conducted while working outside this tiny island, unless it was performed on human subjects in Malta, will not be found here. Similarly, review articles are beyond the scope of this initiative. If you have completed a research study, whether published or not, whether thesis or dissertation, please take the time to upload your abstract to this database.

All of us have reached where we are now by standing on the shoulders of giants. Many of the original manuscripts written by Malta's medical giants lie in hard copy form. Eventually, we would like to digitize all of that great resource material too. So, if you have access to hard copies of any of this work, please let us know by e-mail where it can be found, so that the process of digitizing may begin. Similarly, if some of your own work is not available electronically, please let us know so that it can be placed in the database.

Our thanks to all those who have already submitted an abstract of their work.
