Learning the Tricks

- When you're landing in strong wind and are afraid of being dragged on the ground, try jumping out of the harness, a few feet from the ground, KEEPING one brake in your hands. You'll end up safely and free on the ground, with the paraglider collapsing next to you, in line with the wind!

- In strong winds, try a reverse inflation holding also the B risers with two fingers, for a quick collapse of the canopy in case of problems...

- Landing backwards in a strong wind, try spinning around by crossing the risers, so as you can face the direction of the run...

- On a forward launch, try holding only the inner A lines, to prevent the canopy from "clapping hands"...

- Launching in high winds, try pulling on the B lines to move ahead towards the slope...

- To deflate your canopy in high winds, try collapsing it with the A lines first, pulling immediately after the C lines to prevent re-inflation...

- If you ever (God forbid!) happen to take-off without clipping your leg straps, try to use the foot rest to climb back into the harness... If you haven't got one, try grabbing the risers with your hands and swinging your feet up until you hook them into the risers. From that position you can pull your seat underneath you...

- Always keep a small, deflated life saver handy on a pocket of your flying suit and a small knife on a pocket of your harness...

- When Big Ears are not enough to come down, try applying also full Accelerator...

- When you have knotted lines in flight, try pulling the lines involved one at a time...

GOOD OL' SAYINGS

=================

There are old pilots.

There are bald pilots.

But there are no old, bald pilots!

Better be on the ground, wishing to be in the air,

rather than being in the air, wishing to be on the ground!

Do you still remember your LAST check?

Better safe than sorry...

You've learnt flying for your life,

not against it!

Being on take off and not flying it's no shame.

The shame is in getting hurt!

It's no wonder birds can fly better than you,

they all do it for a living!

When you want to fly to impress others,

remember that nothing will impress them

more than a trip to the hospital!

You fly because it's fun,

so why should you fly when it isn't?

You can rush anything in the world,

but not a take-off!
