Some info ...

So for the sake of conformity, yes, I did get the usual degrees required to be an academic. I started studying engineering at the University of Malta, graduating in 2000, followed by a Master in Systems Theory at Oakland University in Rochester Michigan, US and finishing off with a PhD from the University of Sheffield in Sheffield, UK. At Sheffield, I mostly worked on modelling and estimation of temporal and spatio-temporal behaviour from noisy observations - so I mostly see myself as an estimation dude, happy to work with stochastic data.

The jump from estimation to the various computational methods used in machine learning is a small one. I have thus gained quite some experience in such methods through my academic careers and during a two year break from academia during which I worked as a Data Scientist for an automation company, Egemin Automation, in Antwerp Belgium.

My main current research interests involve the use of machine learning and optimization techniques for urban traffic networks using varied technologies both on local machines and in the cloud. If such topics tickle your interest, please feel free to get in touch using the contact above.
