Title: The carbon dioxide, RH & T distribution in Malta (PHYRP09-02 and PHYRP09-03)
Period: 2012 - 2013
Funding source: University of Malta research grant
Abstract: Atmospheric research on outdoor air has been extensively investigated. On the other hand indoor air has been sidelined for a very long time notwithstanding the fact that people in industrial countries spend more than 90 % of their time in closed environments. It is only in recent years that research in indoor air quality has gained momentum. This is especially true in Malta where a very limited amount of monitoring of indoor air has been carried out and mainly in schools. Thus this project aims at gathering data regarding the indoor air quality of residential buildings. The prospected study will take into account three very important parameters: Temperature and relative humidity that give a good indication of the thermal comfort; and carbon dioxide which is a primary indicator of pollutants in indoor air.
