Lyons (1995) is being singled out as the unit will follow the basic distinctions and conceptual framework developed by this author. However, the three other introductory texts below are also worthy of note, particularly Saaed (1997). Inspite of the specific reference to English in the title, Kreidler (1998) covers much the same ground as the other titles.

CRUSE, Alan. 2000. Meaning in Language: an introduction to semantics and pragmatics. Oxford: Oxford University Press

ISBN 0-19-870010-5 (paperback)

KREIDLER, Charles. 1998. Introducing English Semantics. London: Routledge
